Leccion Dos: Greetings and Farewells in Spanish

  Greeting and saying farewells are important in your day-to-day life. As a beginner, you must know common Spanish greetings and farewells in order to initiate a conversation. There are several ways to greet someone in Spanish, depending on the time of day and the level of formality. Here are some common greetings: "Hola" - This is a simple and informal greeting that can be used at any time of day. It's equivalent to saying "Hi" in English. "Buenos días" - This means "Good morning" and is typically used until around noon. "Buenas tardes" - This means "Good afternoon" and is used from around noon until sunset. "Buenas noches" - This means "Good evening/night" and is used after sunset. "¿Cómo estás?" - This is a common greeting that means "How are you?" It's used in informal settings and with people you know well. "¿Cómo está usted?" - This is a more formal version

Lección Uno: The Spanish Alphabet

The alphabet is one of the first things you should master as a beginner. The Spanish alphabet, called “ Abecedario ” or “ Alfabeto ”  has 27 letters, and it is very similar to the  English alphabet with a few differences in pronunciation. Look at the image below for the pronunciations (in parentheses): To further help with pronunciation, here are some additional details: A is pronounced as "ah", like in "father". B is pronounced as "beh", like in "baby". C is pronounced as "seh" when followed by an "e" or "i", and as "keh" when followed by any other vowel or a consonant. For example, "ciudad" is pronounced "see-you-dahd" and "carro" is pronounced "ka-rroh". D is pronounced as "deh", like in "day". E is pronounced as "eh", like in "bet". F is pronounced as "eh-feh". G is pronounced as "heh" when followed

Why Learn Spanish?

Spanish is the 4 th most spoken language in the world with approximately 548 million speakers (Berltiz, 2023). And you can be one too! Here are a few reasons why you should learn Spanish as a 7th grader: Spanish is Fun! I am not kidding. Some people enjoy being able to speak another language. There is some sort of thrill and accomplishment associated with being able to understand other people and the same emotion is felt when that person is understood. Learning Spanish allows you to understand other people and therefore, connect with them.  Learning Spanish Makes You Marketable By the end of high school, you’ll be ready to embark on your career. You may want to attend university and/or start working. Employers love hiring persons who are multilingual because it’s good for business.
